Okay, on to week two in the 2003 NFL season...
- Buffalo Bills at Jacksonville Jaguars
-
Are you kidding me? Did you see the game against New England? Buffalo is going to skin the Jags and come home with a fine fur coat.
- Cleveland Browns at Baltimore Ravens
-
It may shock some of you, but I'll take the Browns on this one. It's not that I think they're that much better, but they had a much closer game last week than Baltimore, and it always makes you more hungry when you just barely missed the win. Ray Lewis can't do it all by himself.
- Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers
-
Call me crazy, but I think the Mooch is doing a great job with the Detroit crew. Confidence will be shaken in Favre, and there's no fear of the Packers running game right now. Lambeau is going to be really quiet this week.
- Houston Texans at New Orleans Saints
-
I'm not willing to say that the Saints are dead. AB had a bad week, but this is a game they can battle back in. Houston is riding high on confidence, and kudos to them for that, but they won't have the juice to take this game in the Superdome.
- Miami Dolphins at New York Jets
-
The Jets are fired up after that loss to the Redskins, but they won't have the chains to hold back the Beast, Ricky Williams. I predict a 150-yard, 25-carry effort from Rick. I also predict that the Miami defense is going to have Vinny out of the game by halftime. Who was third string again?
- Pittsburgh Steelers at Kansas City Chiefs
-
Touchdown Tommy comes to town with some of the highest-rated receivers in the NFL, against a defense that was one of the league's worst last year. Of course, the Steelers had some problems with defense last year, too, and Priest Holmes will deliver the last rights to them on Sunday. Look for a high-scoring shootout with the Chiefs taking the "W".
- San Francisco 49ers at St. Louis Rams
-
I'm not going to mention the injured Kurt Warner. I'm not going to bring up the egocentric coach who doesn't use the star running back. I will mention the fireworks that will erupt with the Niners offense going against Lovie Smith's defense, which he learned under Dungy in Tampa. One-sided offensive game may see the Rams shut out at home.
- Tennessee Titans at Indianapolis Colts
-
If there is another offensive player in the game who can dominate by himself other than Steve McNair, I can't think of the name. This team will manhandle the Colts defense and will handle itself well against the Colts offense, although Starvin' Marvin will still catch a TD or two. Take the Titans.
- Washington Redskins at Atlanta Falcons
-
The 'Skins are a good team, but the chemistry just isn't there yet. Atlanta is quickly becoming Hotlanta, and will have a field day on the ground, even without the threat of a Vick scramble. I won't say blowout, but Atlanta wins comfortably.
- Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
-
Question: When you come to the house of the Superbowl champions the week after they shut down their biggest rivals on opening day of the new stadium, on the road, in an atmosphere that was emulant of a playoff game, can you really expect to win. The offense struggles a bit for the Bucs, but that monster defense scores enough to beat the Panthers by themselves. Welcome to 2-0, Bucs.
- Seattle Seahawks at Arizona Cardinals
-
Both teams are doing fairly well this year, and it will probably be one of the two games these two face off against each other that will decide their divisional title. Of course, I only mean that for the Seahawks; they might need the cushy win against the Cards to rival the Niners for the division lead. Maybe if the Cardinals moved to LA next year...
- Cincinnati Bengals at Oakland Raiders
-
If this game were in Cinci, I would actually say that the Bengals would stand a chance. But in Oakland, facing the Black Hole and an embarrassed Raiders team, the Raiders will run up the score just to stroke their egos. Oakland by a load.
- Denver Broncos at San Diego Chargers
-
Jake Plummer just hasn't managed to mesh with the offense so far, and I don't know that it will be much better this week. The Chargers are softer on defense (can you believe they cut Junior like that???), but will hold just enough to allow Tomlinson to keep thim in the game. Broncos manage to squeak out a win.
- New England Patriots at Philadelphia Eagles
-
Yeah, the Pats are coming off a bad smackdown at the hands of the Bills. Yeah, the Eagles are heartbroken about being knocked around in their own house. Don't go thinking it will happen again. Despite a great defense, the Pats will not have a good offensive showing, and I predict Viniteiri will be the leading scorer for their team. McNabb puts a two-digit lead on the board, and the rest of the team holds it that way.
- Chicago Bears at Minnesota Vikings
-
Is the bad blood between Moss and Culpepper done with? Does it really matter? No. The Bears (brought to you by Bank One) will be kicked around so often they'll think they were playing football as the ball rather than as players. Nurse the wounds and the bruised egos on the bus back to Chicago, 0-2.
- Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants
-
The Tuna returns with his latest group of candidates, but this game will be nothing more than an opportunity to see who on his team is most resistant to despair. The Giants trample the 'Boys, who are just not Tuna Helper at this point.
