The Thomas Crown Affair

This one looked like it could be fun, but I wasn't sure how Pierce was going to pull off "suave" without being "Bond". Somehow, mission was accomplished and he brought something fresh to the character. Russo was the highlight of this movie, though, and for more reasons than one. The subtitle of this one should be "How sexy can Renee Russo be?" Answer: in my book, she went from a "maybe" to "I'd do her in a heartbeat".
A remake of a 60's flick, this is a fun little jaunt about a bored multi-millionaire who has nothing better to do than to rob a museum for a kick. Russo plays the insurance company's investigator assigned to find the painting and bring it back. The games of cat and mouse begin, and a romantic interest develops between predator and prey. Eventually, Russo all but has Brosnan admitting he did the heist, and it comes down to what do you want more: the guy or the job? With lots of fun plot twists and great banter between the characters, you enjoy yourself right up until the credits.
Brosnan does great in this, and the biggest thing this movie has going for it is the battle throughout the film for Pierce and Renee's characters trying to out-cool each other. It's also refreshing to see a romance where the man isn't old enough to be the woman's grandfather (Sorry, Sean, but NO WAY should it be someone your age getting looks like that from Catherine Zeta Jones). I must say, however, that Russo impressed me the most. This is the best I've ever seen her act or look. My eyes almost fell out in the ballroom scene when she showed up in her see-through gown. Did I emphasize SEE-THROUGH? She later admitted in a behind the scenes interview that she could fold the entire dress up to the size of a handkercheif. I also got a kick out of the lead detective, Denis Leary. That sarcastic SOB kills me every time.
Well worth the money if for no other reason than to see Russo in her dress, I recommend this for anyone. The obvious on-screen chemistry between the two stars also gets the fires lit pretty well, and I'd HIGHLY recommend this as a date movie. Go see it.
